Guest Checklist

We are excited for your upcoming interview. Our shows have been listened to over 3.5 millions times with over 72,000 downloads a month in 143 countries. We know what our listeners want, and we want you to look good. We created this checklist for you to make things easier for you as a guest on our show.

Interview Checklist

  • The interview typically lasts 30-45 minutes. We block out about 60 minutes. On occasion we do run longer than expected when the conversation is particularly fascinating. If you have a hard cutoff time after the interview please let us know in advance.
  • This is meant to be an educational conversation between 2 experts where our listeners get to eavesdrop. Treat the interview like a coffee shop conversation.
  • Relax... This is a recorded conversation, so any big mistakes can be edited out. However, we don't like editing more than we have to so please come prepared.
  • This is meant to be entertaining, so make sure you have some good stories, humor, or things that will make people think.

Technical Requirements:

  • We use Zoom to record our interviews. It is really easy to use. A link to the recording will be included on your calendar invite. Please click on the link a few minutes before we begin recording. This requires a computer. Do not use a phone or tablet unless you have experience with the right equipment.
  • Audio quality is extremely important. Please make sure you are in a quiet place for the interview. Background noise is extremely annoying and the listeners will tune out. Also, make sure you have a good quality mic. Do not use your computers built-in mic. We will cancel the interview if your sound is bad or you are using a computer built-in mic. You don't need to spend a lot of money, but if you are doing a lot of interviews, you may want to invest in a good quality USB mic like the Audio Technica ATR 2100x. It makes a big difference.
  • We can also use Skype or Phone if necessary. We prefer Zoom because otherwise the sound quality suffers and that is the number 1 reason people tune out of interviews. If you want to make the most of your interview, make sure you are prepared. If you need to use a phone or skype, please let us know in advance. My skype name is: kirkchisholm1.

Last minute check-in prior to interview:

  • Check the Zoom link a few minutes prior to the interview
  • Find a quiet room with no background noise
  • Turn off your cell phone and landline ringer
  • Write down any of your speaking points. If you are providing a link to the listeners, make sure you write it down in advance.
  • Don't overtly promote yourself. Your expertise will sell itself. Think about how experts are interviewed on TV. When is the last time you heard an expert in CNBC telling everyone how great he/she is. The same principle works here.
  • Get some water. Use the bathroom.
  • Most importantly... Relax and have fun. This show is supposed to be entertaining. This only happens when you are having fun.

We are excited to have you as a guest on our show. if you have any questions prior to your interview, please don't hesitate to email us at kirk@innovativefinancialmedia.com.
